Founded in the Spring of 2010, the Woodland Experimental Groove Orchestra is a large all-improv dance-band with a couple of key twists. A verbal and visual signaling system encourages spontaneous composition and allows the full momentum of an improvising septet to turn on a dime in response to the inspiration of any of the players. Diverse vocal contributions from each player further enhance the group's chemistry and allow the injection of a unique element of playfulness. Lyrics from the masters of pop, showtunes, and butt-rock are woven into the ever-evolving groove, occasionally building up to dense anthemic harmonies that are simultaneously unprecedented and eerily familiar.

Current core members include guitarist/vocalist Woody Frank, djembe-player Jenny Freeling, multi-instrumentalist Denis Jolin, guitarist/vocalist Ian McKagen, percussionist/pianist/vocalist Jesse Silvertrees, and Andrew Woods on nylon-stringed bass-box, vocals, and other.
